Reasons for Basic Income Proposals

Basic income is a great idea.

Even after decades of stagnant wages and increasing job security, workers continue to put in longer hours and earn less than before.

The idea of basic income could create jobs and improve living standards, though we still have a long way to go before that is possible with current income levels.

Basic income could also lead to a more rational economy. This idea is often used as an argument for reducing the number of people employed. However, if you look at a lot of the evidence as to why employment falls, it often comes down to people losing productivity through laziness, or the fear of unemployment or an inability to find more suitable work.
